Spirit of Harlem by Louis Delsarte

Spirit of Harlem: Glass Mosaic located at North Fork Bank, 280 West 125 Street in New York, NY. A commissioned work designed by artist Louis Delsarte, and manufactured in Munich, Germany by Gabriel and Franz Mayer.


Louis Delsarte is an adjunct professor of Fine Arts and Humanities at Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA. Mr. Delsarte works in New York as an artist in residence at New York University, and is involved with the Scholar in Residence/Artist in Residence Program at New York University’s Faculty Resource Network. He maintains a studio in Manhattan and works with the Bob Blackburn Print-making Workshop. A muralist for over thirty years, Mr. Delsarte’s work is in the collections of many American and European art museums and galleries.


Franz Mayer of Munich, Inc., founded in 1847, is a family business dedicated to restoring historic mosaics and creating new pieces for artists, designers and architects worldwide. Projects are completed in a 30,000 square foot studio space in Munich using highly trained craftspeople. The company headquartered in Munich also has an office in Brooklyn.
