V R S Shyam, Gond Tribal Art, Madhya Pradesh
Born into a traditional Gond tribal family in 1970, Venkat Raman Singh Shyam started painting at the age of ten. His main inspiration came from renowned artist J. Swaminathan and from legendary Gond artist Jangarh Singh Shyam. He has participated in many exhibitions in India and has been invited to participate in art residencies and exhibitions in England, Scotland, France and Spain. He has won the State Award of Madhya Pradesh in 2002 and "The Tallest Story Competition" trophy in Scotland in 2007. In 2010, he had a solo show at the Brookline Art Centre in Massachusetts, USA.
