Laxman Aelay
Laxman Aelay was born in the Nalgonda district of Andhra Pradesh, and received his BFA in Painting from Jawaharlal Nehru Technical University in Hyderabad.

He was an illustrator of books, went on to do publicity design for famous Hindi movie director Ram Gopal Varma's films, and also became an art director for films.

He has since turned his attention to being a freelance painter with great success. His canvases depict the rural life that he left behind. His figures, drawn in ink, are mainly those of rural women, sturdy and tough, representing the notion that women are the stronger sex. They run their homes, raise their families, till their fields, making the male almost marginal, a notion that is depicted by Aelay in his paintings: the men are with their backs to the viewer, their faces almost never seen.
