The Cathedral Church of St. Finn Barre
The floor was made by Italian craftsmen working for a Parisian firm using marble from the Pyrenees. It illustrates Jesus' statement that 'The kingdom of heaven is like a net let down into the sea, where fish of every kind were caught in it.' (Matthew 13:47). Included in the mosaics is a variety of people about their daily work.
As in Cardiff, and other buildings by Burges, there is a riot of colour within, which contrasts strikingly with the grey coldness of the stone without. Had the decoration been completed according to plan, ... the colourful mosaic flooring would have been accompanid by coloured tiles elsewhere.
