Smiling Charcoal Girls
Two girls living among the artisanal charcoal manufacturing near Smokey Mountain, Manila Philippines. Many people collect scrap wood from the adjacent landfill, bury it and smolder it until it becomes charcoal, and then sell the charcoal which is used to cook food. Orphans and the extremely poor are left to collect fallen bits of charcoal, hoping to scrape enough together to sell.
