A Christmas Story (1983)

In this nostalgic modern-day classic directed by Bob Clark and based on the Jean Shepherd novel "In God We Trust, All Others Pay Cash", young Ralphie (Peter Billingsley) wants nothing more than an "Official Red Ryder Carbine-Action Two-Hundred-Shot Range Model Air Rifle" (with a compass in the stock) for Christmas and decides to cover all his bases by taking his request directly to "the big man himself", Santa Claus (Jeff Gillen) at Higbee's Department Store, only to leave crestfallen when he receives the same dire warning from Santa that he's gotten from every other grown-up that he's mentioned his wish to, "You'll shoot your eye out kid!"
