Entrance To Station

Newer Older

The badly deteriorated underside of the Burlington Station in Omaha, Neb.

These stairs aren’t fenced off at the bottom, but the floor is rotted away. The rest of the grand old rail depot is in better shape, but it is a vacant shell. There have been several plans to reused the circa-1898 building, but none of them have been successful.

That looks like such an interesting place to explore.

It's a shame that the railroads had these treasures and just let them go to hell.

It’s much the same situation w/ the NY central terminal in Buffalo. Grand old building that’s been going in circles with ideas to re-use for decades, but nothing has materialized.
In this economy, very unlikely anyone will come up with the $$$ to re-develop it……it’s a shame.

Warren It's a story repeated in many old towns across the nation. The difference is that the other big train station in Omaha was saved, and very nicely.

This will likely be removed along with the circular drive above it when KETV 7 renovates Burlington for its new broadcast home in 2015.
