A closer look at that ancient hydro plant along the Claverack Creek.


This is the oldest machinery of its kind in the United States, dating to around 1870, according to seemingly credible sources online. Clearly it hasn’t been preserved, but at least it hasn’t been vandalized, either.


This was a nice find for me ... often I go somewhere and what I want to photograph has been demolished or is inaccessible. Here I stumble on a piece of industrial history. But it was a careful balancing act -- I’m on a narrow beam above an icy stream. Fun times!
