Orange Falls, Cub Creek, Overton County, Tennessee 1

The orange staining on the rock results from acid mine drainage. It is called Yellow Boy. While it may be pretty, it is harmful to the wildlife there. No fish live in the stream, and animals that drink from the stream are slowly poisoning themselves. Lead, cadmium, and other heavy metals can be present in the acid mine drainage. Many of those bioaccumulate, which could be of concern to hunters in the region.
