I love this! is there a pattern available or is it your own design/
  • Lauren Gainey 5y

Lovely! I've been looking for a pattern too

no pattern (at least, not one i used). i saw similar quilts on flickr and made up my own pattern based on what i saw. very simply, this is a dot-dot-dash pattern, where you sew blocks (in short-short-long sizes) into rows and then sew the rows together. it's quite easy to see once you sketch it out on paper. my finished "squares" are each 4x4, so i cut pieces to 4 1/2 x 4 1/2, 12 1/2 x 4 1/2, and a few 8 1/2 x 4 1/2 for the side pieces where the crosses get cut off. make sense? i'm happy to answer other questions about the quilt. this design just makes me so happy!

thanks, it does make sense but sketching it out is good advice. it also just pops b/c your fabric choices are so great/

How much of each fabric did you start with? By the way, I LOVE it!!
  • Ara Jane Olufson 3y

Amice80 i wish i could say definitively, but i honestly have no idea! i'm pretty sure i had fat quarters of many of the prints, and some half yard cuts. i know i had a bunch left over when i was done.

maybe this will help: each cross is made up of one 4-1/2" x 12-1/2" bar and two 4-1/2" squares. so, technically you'd need one 20" x 4-1/2" strip for each cross you made. it looks like i used each print for about three crosses (two for the solids), which you could easily get out of a fat quarter (which is 18" x 22") with a bit left over! so, if you had a fat quarter stack of fabrics that had at least 8-10 prints, you could probably make this quilt (which is 44" x 60"). sorry that's not a detailed answer, but i hope it helps!

That is a fantastic answer! Thank you so much!!
