“The Little Mermaid” is the symbol of Copenhagen. The sculpture by Edvard Eriksen (1876-1959) was inspired by one of Hans Christian Andersen’s best-known stories. Unveiled in 1913, the statue was a gift to the city by Carl Jacobsen, son of the founder of Carlsberg Beer which was named after Carl.
