Flying fox face

    Newer Older

Spectacled flying fox pteropus conspicillatus, a large fruit-eating bat with a wing span of over 4 feet. I'm told they taste good. They also can carry some nasty diseases, so cook them well if you try it.

Wow that is scary looking, to see that at night

So it isn't scary during the day, then? :-)

These bats aren't really scary, day or night. They just eat fruit, not blood or small children. They can be annoying if they are eating your food from your garden, but they pretty much stay away from people. Of course, this one didn't stay far enough away from the boy behind him, who happened to be a really good aim with a sling shot, and hungry for bat meat.

I had flying fox when we were on a mission trip when I was a kid...it tasted like chicken lol but I couldn't bring myself to eat the little hand they all reckoned was a delicacy...I think those jokesters might have been having me on ;)

I don't think I actually ate flying fox... but there were several feasts I was at where I wasn't sure what I was eating, so I can't be 100% sure. :-)
