Green on Green -- this is a Green Banded Peacock Swallowtail, Papilio palinurus

This is a Green Banded Peacock. This is the natural color of this butterfly... really bright flourescent! It's dark green with black speckles and light green in the "V" area, and you can see that both of its tails have been bitten off!

Submitted to photo Sunday's "green" challenge 7-07, Photo Friday's "fragile" challenge on 4-10-08, and Photo Tuesday's "green" theme 11-1-09, and See it Sunday's "butterfly" theme 3-5-11

Thanks! Yes, it's an unusual color with the light green swath and dark green with black speckles. I took this pic at the Butterfly Pavilion in Westminster, Colorado.
