Homemade Popcorn

After the "popcorn lung" scare a little while ago, I decided to just make my own popcorn (I try to make everything else from scratch, why not this?).

 

I coat the bottom of a large pot with oil, pour in popcorn kernels to cover the bottom of the pot, put a lid on it, and shake the heck out of it. Some variations I've tried so far: adding a few tsps of sugar to make kettle corn and using flavored dipping oil instead of plain olive oil.
