Colorful Wet Shell

    Newer Older

I found this colorful shell on a rocky beach at low tide in Bahia de Los Angeles. I rubbed the shell down with cooking oil because I wanted it to look as colorful as when I saw it wet. My wife thinks it looks a bit like a grouper.

I lit it with an SB600 in a softbox camera left and a reflector camera right. Side lighting reveals so much more texture and shape than front lighting does. The flash was triggered by the pop up flash on my D90 in commander mode

A lot of knowledgeable beach bums preferred to view this large on a dark background. You can see it in the same was as those enlightened idlers by pressing "L".

Yikes, it looks like a skull to me -- perhaps I spent too much time shooting Zombies this last weekend, LOL. Love the colors.

Great hot, thought it was a fossil fish at first.

I thought it was some sort of alien skull at first - Nice detail!
