Shore Front & Beach 90 (or so)
We'd driven in through Broad Channel, and Carl had left the same way last week, but since taking me down Flatbush was going to be very convenient, he'd decided to take the Gil Hodges bridge. It was somewhere around here that we first saw where the boardwalk had been completely ripped away. The area where we'd been working must have been somewhat protected by Atlantic Beach, as I'd mentioned, the boardwalk was largely intact there - here, only these hex-paved solid sections survived - the wooden decking? Just gone. TQ had told us that the wooden sections weren't really anchored to the concrete piers, so they just broke loose and floated inland until they fetched up against building. We had to stop to see this, and then we decided to go see what the gathering was about.
