Green Heron, just before the strike

Sailor Bar, American River Parkway / Sacramento County, California

 

While I was visiting Sailor Bar on the morning of 5/17/2018, I noticed that the pond off Illinois Avenue had dropped the water level at least 3 feet so where I observed this Green Heron should have had substantially more water than it did then. This allowed the Green Heron a better vantage point to observe for food. During the 20-30 minutes as I watched the Green Heron, it caught 2 fish that it had to work the fish around in its bill to remove the algae.
