The Badlands

I was not prepared for the color that I would see at the Badlands. When we got here, the temperatures were around 100+ degrees. We opted not to do a hike that day. Instead, Jamie would drive, I would say "Stop the car!" and then jump out to snap a picture.

About: To the Lakota, this harsh and desolate landscape was known as "mako sica," meaning “land bad." Early French trappers similarly described the area as “bad lands to travel across." Today, geologists consider all the places in the world with similar topography and formation, badlands.

The reason I do black and white is I can never get color to turn out like this. So, maybe we can do a trade. I'll give you all of my black and white secrets if you teach me how to do color like a pro. Deal? Love the colors you picked up and I appreciate your intelligence as well. When it's over 100 outside, it's best to pick your shots. :-)

I could only imagine what early Pioneers thought when they first laid eyes on this place. They were probably torn between “You gotta be kidding me” to “Wow, this place is gorgeous”. All I know is I wouldn’t want to have to cross here.
