The Badlands

I was not prepared for the color that I would see at the Badlands. When we got here, the temperatures were around 100+ degrees. We opted not to do a hike that day. Instead, Jamie would drive, I would say "Stop the car!" and then jump out to snap a picture.

About: To the Lakota, this harsh and desolate landscape was known as "mako sica," meaning “land bad." Early French trappers similarly described the area as “bad lands to travel across." Today, geologists consider all the places in the world with similar topography and formation, badlands.
