Northern Constabulary Pipe Band - Not-so-secret Drum Corps - at Portree Isle of Skye Scotland

Picture the scene - it's a sunny morning in Portree, and all over the town centre Pipe Bands are tuning up, warming up and scaring the seagulls.

NorCon Pipie takes his Pipe Corps to a secret location (in behind the copshop) and moulds them into shape.

NorCon PB drum corps goes down The Lane at the side of the Police Station and starts playing their repertoire - not fancy drum solos or drum salutes/fanfare - 'just' the drumming accompaniment to the Band's tunes.

Next thing there is a sizeable crowd - probably as many as the other whole pipe bands are getting.

Folk from all over the world - and local Skye folk too - stand there in awe and appreciation.

Chances are most have never before heard a drum performance like that, with no pipes.

The longer the "Badger Brigade" played, the larger the crowd, quite a few drifting over from where the other bands were playing, and the more the camera shutters clicked and video recorders whirred.

Then, when the drummers finished and went to join the pipers, there was a loud spontaneous applause from the assembled crowd.

It was awsome.

- but then again they are the current Grade 4b Scottish Champion Drum Corps!
