Burrowing Owl

This is one of 3 Burrowing Owls currently wintering at the Cesar Chavez Park in Berkeley, California. The area is well marked, with good interpretive signs, and the owls seem to have acclimated to the passing throngs of walkers and dogs. The locals love these owls and are very protective and respectful of them. Today it was hiding a bit behind the edge of the blacktop circle in the northeast corner, right where the Red-tailed Hawk was perched 10 minutes previously.
