Gulls and Phalaropes
Digi-scope flight shot of Red-necked Phalaropes and Bonaparte's Gulls at Drakes beach, with maestro Rich Stallcup conducting. 15,000 phalaropes and 1,000 Bonaparte's Gulls. Awesome. Drakes Beach, Point Reyes National Seashore, May 11, 2009. With each wave breaking at the shore the birds would lift up briefly and settle outside the surf line, foraging for invertebrates stirred up from the sand.
