Theo F. Tone & Co. Coal Warehouse, Harlem Office advertisement
I had started to take a photo early last week of this painted wall advertisement. It was exposed by demolition of the adjacent building in the foreground. I don't know when the sign was painted, however I knew that Theo F. Tone was one of the old Manhattanville families of 19th-century builders and architects. But I didn't stop to take the shot. Then, next morning, the news reported that the building in the foreground had partially collapsed, so of course I couldn't get anywhere near the site. Fortunately, no one was seriously injured, and the collapsed building has actually afforded me a better view of the sign.
