Twisted

One of the most spectacular Japanese Maple Trees in the world. I live to far away from this natural wonder to know exactly when the fall blooms might be on full spectacle, but nonetheless it was a pleasure to photograph it. I shot this with my widest angled lens of 16mm but I needed more like a 10mm to get it all in. It stands only six feet tall but with its curvy and twisting arms it might as well be half a football field wide in my mind. I sat my tripod on the ground just between the spaces of a miniature wooden fence that divides the path between this and its audience. It was an overcast day, but the sky gave just enough light to give it the mythical feeling I was hoping for.
