Nature’s Dance, Take Two

This tree with it’s dancing roots was rather popular with me and my compositions I had while at Bryce Canyon.

I woke up at 5am, put on my ballcap and camera gear and quietly headed out of our hotel room which was about 5 min down the road from the National Park. I left everyone behind quietly sleeping while I raced towards Sunrise Point which is high above the amphitheater and the hoodoos below.

As I scurried up to the lookout points, I could only see one other individual out there before me. He was a photographer from the State of Washington in the Pacific Northwest. We exchanged some pleasantries as we both setup for our sunrise shots. The sun would be rising to the left of the frame so I was scouting what might have the best angles. He was working on timelapses and telling me of his favorite spots out West. I have been to Oregon twice before but I was getting some great information about other spots that I hope to visit in the future.

On a different site, I had another photographer reach out to me about this tree. She had taken the same shot as the one I had previously shared (sunset image) and wondered if this tree had still survived. She shot hers back in 2012. I was happy to report the tree is still alive and well.

It was still dark when I arrived, but I had a pretty good idea that the sun would light up the canyon rim and this tree was the perfect subject matter to give the image a great anchor to the frame. After shooting for about two hours I was ready to get back to my tribe for some breakfast. We had a long hike planned for that day through the Queens Garden (one end of the rim to the other).

Do you like hearing the backstory? Thoughts on the image?
