Tiger Beetle

This handsome chap is a voracious predator and can often be found near ants nests in sandy soil. The larva known as the "ant lion" hides in a burrow with jaws at the entrance waiting for an insect, usually ants to trigger the jaws like a man trap.

This chap was photographed at the Lochar Moss, near Dumfries on a bright sunny day the warmth from the sun makes them particularly active.

This image was captured on a Minolta X700 & 55mm Rokkor MC Ext. tubes.

Fuji Sensia 100 Slide Film.
