Engenoca From Bus Stop to Return_20060110_082
I picked up 31 pieces of litter on my way out on the trail this day. I was thinking while waiting for the bus about an idea that I developed further in Oregon: competitive, local litter-removal. Basically, a site could be set up to track many different trails around the world. Those who hiked certain trails on a regular basis could pick up litter on a given day and make a record of how many pieces they picked up. Over time, it might become a matter of personal pride to pick up more than a renowned trash-vigilante on their home trail. This could increase consciousness about litter on trails and lead to cleaner trails and friendly competitive trail maintenance.
