Wagasa - Japanese Umbrella
The first record of a paper umbrella in Japan is from a mural painted in 1309. The umbrella gained greater popularity in the late 1700s. Similar umbrellas can be found in China as well. The difference is in the construction. The Japanese umbrellas are made with a finer cut of bamboo which produces a more slender appearance.
