Orange Peel Quilt, 2

I originally designed this queen-sized pattern as a smaller scale 12” x 12” digital image in Photoshop. I frequently used it for making paper goods like envelopes. In fact, I used the design so often it was only a matter of time before I turned it into a quilt!

The quilt pattern was enlarged from the digital image to make it bold and graphic. A nice effect of that were fewer pieces to sew together.

Machine piecing the quilt was chosen for fast and sturdy construction. In order to get accurately cut fabric, freezer paper was used for the pattern pieces to minimize slipping.

Stitch in the ditch quilting was chosen because I wanted the quilt to be as soft as possible and also to keep the focus of the quilt on the piecing. The binding is hand-stitched.

The colors are Free Spirit S79 Bahama, S83 Light Jade, and S84 Jade.
