Golden Sceptre in the Marsh. Male Flowering Typha latifolia, Common Bulrush, World Horticultural Expo 2012, Venlo, The Netherlands
The World Horticultural Expo 2012, also called the Floriade, near Venlo, is a marvelous showcase of flowers and plants around the Globe. It's also devoted to the Greening of the World. The huge expanse of the Expo covering an area of some 130 soccer fields also has wild areas, local woods and ponds.
Here's a Common Bulrush, Typha latifolia, on the borders of one of the ponds. We're usually accustomed to the 'brown' form. That color is particular to the female plant. This Golden Sceptre has the male flowers at the top. A wonder to behold even if this gold doesn't bring wealth into the safe but into the mind's eye!
