Hollybank, Chorleywood

This is Hollybank in Shire Lane, designed and built by C F A Voysey in 1903-04. The plot is less than 100 yards further up the road from Voysey's own home, The Orchard. The client was a doctor - hence the two front doors. On the left, under a curved arch was the entrance to the surgery and on the right was the entrance to the house. The doctor was an early adopter of the motor car and Voysey designed a double garage that included an inspection pit, the covers of which were pierced by handgrips in the shape of Voysey's trademark heart.
