Jane Austen - Pride and Prejudice birthday cake (by ScottRyder)

I made this Jane Austen "Pride and Prejudice" book-shaped birthday cake for my wife in 2006. I actually bought the book-shaped cake pan in 2005 to make her a cake that year, but the results of my baking attempt were disastrous. In 2005, when I originally poured the cake mix into the pan, I somehow neglected the fact the cake would rise. Thinking there wasn't enough cake mix in the pan, I rushed back to the store for more ingredients. I hurried home and poured the second batch of cake mix into the pan, on top of the original mix. A short time later, I started to smell something burning and looked in the oven to find what looked like an over-inflated football, instead of a birthday cake. I didn't have time to start over, so I had to go back to the grocery and buy her a pre-made cake. I didn't tell Heidi about my fiasco that year because I knew I had to attempt it again the following year. Anyway, the 2006 cake turned out fine, although I was a bit rushed trying to decorate it. Before I presented the cake, I added the Jane Austen figure next to it. Heidi loved the cake, and it tasted pretty good! Success!
