(Santa Cruz, California) - I took this at the Northern part of the Hole-in-the-Wall beach. Probably my favorite beach (combined with Panther beach) during the two day workshop with Jim Paterson and Joshua Cripps. They took us to lots of different beaches as we trying to find optimal conditions for splash photography (ok, seascape is the correct term here).
It is critical to shot lots of exposures as the moving water changes so fast. All these images are from the same wave and I like all three in different ways.
I used a 6-stop ND filter and a 3-stop soft GND to slow down the exposure at a reasonable f-stop and to expose the sky correctly (in fact, I wanted a dramatic sky so the sky is a bit darker than what it was). A 2-stop GND would have been more appropriate to realistically document the scene.
