Camels licking a log

At first I thought they were eating snow, but I think they were licking the log.

    There is a place near Glacier N.P. where mountain goats go to lick the rocks, for the salt content.....could be the case here ?

    OK, that makes sense, might be. Zoo keepers, care to enlighten us? There's a town in Kentucky called Beaver Lick, presumably due to a similar habit on the part of these aquatic rodents. Or something.
