Makat ABM System A Test Launch Site

The Makat Test Launch Site in Detail: Today the Launch Pad, remains of three Theodolite Stands and some Dugouts for the Ancillary Equipment necessary to launch the R-12 Missile are stille present.

The R-12 Missile was launched from Makat rather than Kapustin Yar because this resulted in a steeper missile trajectory, making the missile easier to detect and track for the Experimental sysem A ABM System at Sary Shagan.

The First Successful Intercept of an incoming R-2 Missile was on March 4, 1961.
