Mr. Mac Cake (Apple Computer)

This cake was for a sweet 16 party. The client just bought her daughter a new computer. We had never made a computer before (go figure) so this was all new for us. The screen is made from flower paste which we (for once) made well enough in advance so we didn't have to worry about it. The moment we got the order my hubby started rolling flower paste - lol! There was no way that screen wouldn't be solid! The young girl's favorite book is about to be released in the U.S. as a movie (Twilight) so we incorporated that as the wallpaper on the computer screen. The iPod was an afterthought but worked out nicely. My teenage son was a GREAT source of information for this cake!

how did u get the screen to stay up for the computer?
  • Terri Goodwin 6y

We made the gumpaste screen more than a week in advance to be sure it was completely dry. We also pushed a flat skewer up through the center for support. You couldn't see the skewer since it was embedded in the gumpaste. When we placed the screen on the cake, we made a divot in the cake behind the computer itself to place the screen just barely in but also pushed the skewer down into the cake. My hubby figured out the construction... I just made it pretty - lol!
