Farne view!

Because of the high winds all boat trips to the Farne Islands were cancelled, so all we could do was look longingly from Bamburgh!

The rocks here (whin sill dolerite on the left, carboniferous limestone to the right) once formed an arch or anticline, long since collapsed, leaving the channel through the centre of Harkness Rocks. The Whin Sill also gives rise to other local crags and to the Farnes themselves.

The white painted stag on the rockface on the left supposedly commemorates a hunting party - the pursued stag preferred to take it's chances by jumping into the sea, than being killed.
