Griffith Park Observatory - 2014

One of my favorite photo spots. After last year I had to go back again this year on a clear night.

2013 shot on a hazy night:

This place was in the movie "Tobor the Great" (50's sci-fi) Classic!

Thanks Joe. While nearly all of my pictures are "photos of opportunity", this one was planned months in advance. I had to hike a mile up the mountain, then down again, in the dark. Loved every minute of it!

Hey, mind if I ask, where did you take this / which trail did you take?

The hiking trail runs due north from the Observatory then winds around a little. Good shooting locations start about 1/2 mile up the trail. Best time to get night shots is in December around 5:00 pm when it is getting dark and the lights in the high rise buildings are still on (and visibility is "winter clear"). Don't worry about the dark. There are always hikers up there at night, and it's an easy walk down, even at night. Great shooting in daylight too, as long as the air is clear. Have fun!
