On The Hook

    Joys of the job.

Not really how I wanted to spend my afternoon and evening. I blew a heater hose in 90+ degree weather and had to be towed into the Volvo Dealer in Cedar Rapids, IA. It was about 8 hours from the time I stopped on the side of the highway to the time they finished working on my truck.

As every Professional Over The Road Truck Driver knows; It's not 'if' you will break down, it's 'when' you will break down.

Think about the size of this vehicle combination for a minute. This Tow Truck is about 35' long or so, and it is towing a tractor and trailer that weighs about 70,000 pounds, and is about 70' long or so. This is over 100' of machinery rolling down the road. That is about 1/3 of a football field.

You trying to copy my photo? LOL!!! How many miles have you racked up on your truck? You haven't had it that long it seems.

btw that tow truck with those twin stacks looks like a bull. I'm sure pulls like one too to pull both your cab & trailer.

      - Yeah, we all end up like this eventually. It's not a question of IF you will break down. It's just a matter of When you will break down. In fact, this was my third visit to a Volvo Dealer in the past month. Hopefully all the gremlins are gone now. I've had this truck for a little over a year and I've put about 130,xxx mile on it

That tow truck did buck and snort. He was wheeling down the highway at 65mph with my truck and trailer just hanging on.

Yea it definitely is when not if lol. And to give a little more perspective in size that one is what looks to be a 35ton boom 2 stage so he is probably right close to 27-29k on weight. My brothers is a 4 axle 50ton 3 stage boom with 40ton underlift sitting at 373" wheelbase monster lol.... With all his tools and blocks etc full of fuel he is just over 40,000 by his self. Had a 12 axle oversize weighing god knows what behind him a while back. Kinda puts you at awe thinking of all that weight moving down the road doesn't it.
