Lustron home - Dixon, Illinois

Lustron homes where built throughout the U.S. for returning servicemen in 1949-1950. Constructed out of solid steel and durable steel panels with a baked on porcelain finish, many have survived to the present day with little or no maintenance. Created by Carl Strandlund approximately 2,498 were built, designed to be maintenance free & 3 times stronger than wooden homes. There is a Lustron registry on the web with pictures & locations of these homes across the country. The home pictured is in Dixon, Illinois, where several of these homes were built.
