Two More Ports

Today I went to the Wine Cellar and grabbed 3 more bottles of wine. Another bottle of that Gewurztraminer, and these two ports.

On the left, a Late Bottled Vintage Port from 2000. Late Bottled Vintage Ports are what would otherwise be a Vintage Port, except demand was low. So instead it sits in the oak for much longer, though I don't believe as long as a Tawny. This matures the Port a bit faster than it would have been as a Vintage maturing in a bottle. It's like a Vintage Port one-off. Or, maybe two-or-three-off. It comes in two styles, one filtered and one not. This is filtered, and thus does not require decanting. It also means that it doesn't really benefit from much bottle maturing. Costs a good deal less than the 10 year old Tawny I bought last time.

On the right is a 'Vintage Character' Port. That's the old term often used to label Premium Rubies. This bottle must have been sitting around for quite a while. "In 2002, the IVDP prohibited the use of the term "Vintage Character", as the wine had neither attribute."
