This was an illustration I did for the cover of "Sendings", a local "Elfquest" fanzine, whose fanbase revolved around the graphic fantasy novels by Wendi and Richard Pini. "Elfquest" was big in the late 70s, early 80s and was beautifully illustrated with a fascinating storyline. Anyway, the Elves ended up aquiring a cache of armour which proved quite useful when they got into some heavy duty combat. The elves were telepaths and rode around on great big wolves, hence the elaborate embellishment on the shield.
Not much more to say about it really, except doing this reminded me of resting after a Society For Creative Anachronism tournament.
Hah hah. Looking back at some of this earlier work I see why I like camera flares so much when I'm working in Photoshop now. I was always drawing shiny reflections...!
