2.5 Million Dalit Women to file Land Calims

From April 11 - 14, Ekta Parishad & National Alliance for Dalit Land Rights (NADLR) came together to remind the government about a promised National Land Reform Policy. National Sample Survey data suggests that 79.2% of Scheduled Caste and 52.9% of Scheduled Tribes in India are Landless or Near Landless. After pressure from various civil society groups, the central government has also issued advisories to 13 state governments to implement Land Reforms. To keep the pressure going, 2.5 Million women in 300 districts of 20 states in India are filing Land Claims, beginning 14th of April 2013, the 122nd Birth Anniversary of Babasaheb Ambedkar. The campaign will go on till 6th of December 2013 and is one of the largest claim-filing campaigns in recent times.
