Her Majesty’s Theatre Grote Street Adelaide.
Built in 1913 as the new Tivoli theatre. It has had several renamings since then. It was given the name Her Majesty’s Theatre in 1962 a year before Queen Elizabeth II made her February 1963 visit to Adelaide. It had some major renovations in the 1970s when the gods/grand circle were removed reducing its capacity to 970 patrons. It closed again in 2018 for a $66 million expansion and refit with new gods/grand circle, bars, lifts, enlarged foyer, ticket office and backstage facilities etc. In reopened in June 2020 with seating for 1,467 but with audience sizes limited by covid 19 social distancing requirements. It is now owned and operated by the Adelaide Festival Centre Trust. Its opening event was a State Theatre Company production of the play Gaslight in September 2020.
