Dionysus sculptures,The Stoivadeion, Delos, Greece
Marble phalluses erected by Karystos at the small Sanctuary of Stoivadeion devoted to Dionysos. They were erected about 300 BC;. these huge phallus are emblematic of the orgiastic rites that took place during the Dionysian festivals. Around the base is carved a representation of a bride being carried to her new husband's home.
