Archaic Greek Art: Kouros

Athens, National Museum. © E. Brundige 2005.

Kouros from Melos, ca. 550BCE.

Illustration for my travel blog, Ancient Greece Odyssey: A Traveller's Journal.

Yet another kouros, fairly early archaic by the look of it. This well-known style of pre-classical Greek sculpture seems to have been invented in imitation of Egyptian pharaoh portraits, which often stand in a similar pose.
