Traditional fabric decorations on Dutch costumes in Staphorst. Three different types of decoration: 1. Daily wear - all colors. 2. Light mourning - only blue and white. 3. Deep mourning - only white. The background is in all cases black. Mostly it's satin woven, although one is linen woven and one has a jaquard pattern.
The technique is to put a nail head (or a pin head) in paint and touch it to the fabric. Sometimes the nails or pins are put together as a sort of stamp so that the work goes faster.
