School Lunches (Draft 2)

We’ve heard lunch horror stories all our lives nothing can really compare to the one at our school. No they’re not serving week old food or mystery meat, it’s healthy food. Full meals at lunch is the main complaint people have, there are much larger issues or happenings a long with the full meal deal.

For most of us back in elementary school is when the process that has seemly snuck up on us. They stopped serving cookies, cakes and other sweets with our lunches for the most part. This generation is very focused on what we eat, how much we eat, and balance. The schools finally decided to take the next step in the program they’ve been trying to do all along.

It’s the numbers that get us though, Pepsi sponsorship gives us money for having the machines, and gets the money inside them. Their goal being you drink their products the rest of your life, not to make money. That’s a loss of thousands of dollars yearly that could go towards programs supporting a healthy life style.

If healthy eating is supposed to help the obesity problem in today’s schools, then we need to at least look into serving size. You don’t want kids to starve, but too little is better than too much when it comes to food. If someone really wants more, or they want less, let them have it. By now our eating habits are what they are, if we want to be healthy we can change them on our own.

You can choose to have an apple, salad and milk if you really want it. You can also choose as of now a vending machine lunch of a Mountain Dew bag of chips and a candy bar if you really wanted. If you are really smart though, pack your own lunch to your standards and there will be no problem.

You can plead and whine all you want for things to go back the way they were, but face it if you don’t think you could be healthier some of your peers could be. This program in the end will bring no longer a message of Pepsi for life, but healthy eating for life. Whether we can make up the money we will lose with that message, only time will tell.
