James H. McKee

James Harvey McKee by Barcalow of New York City. McKee served with the 144th New York Infantry for his entire enlistment, joining the regiment in the summer of 1862 as a sergeant in Company I. He later advanced to second lieutenant. After the war he became a minister in Ohio. He also wrote the history of the 144th, Back "in War Times," published in 1903.

A profile of this soldier was originally published in the print edition of the Civil War News. Read it on my blog, Faces of War: The history of the Civil War is the stories of its soldiers.
