York Minster 2

From the ground, looking from west to east down the nave, towards the organ. The base of that is about 12-15 feet above floor level. The golden dragon, middle left of pic, is thought to be part of a mechanism for raising a heavy lid, perhaps of a font. The building of the nave began in 1291 and it is the widest of any medieval cathedral.
