Clifton's Cafeteria, 1940

    Newer Older

The historic facade of Clifton's Brookdale is still there. It's just covered by a 1950s remodel. Thankfully that incredible terrazzo sidewalk didn't go anywhere and is still visible (and greatly adored) to this day.

I didn't know the facade was visible behind that screen. I'll have to go back the next time I'm downtown.

Thanks for digging this up. Very interesting info on the facade. I wonder if they'll "unwrap" it with the remodel.

Awesome old facade. It'll definitely be interesting to see which of the facades they decide to keep.

Hopefully the new owner will restore it one of these days.

Believe it or not, the current owner has already started stripping away some of the metal facade. One of those awesome arches and a window above have recently been revealed. It's great news!

This is a fantastic photo. There is just something special about seeing these vintage photos with locations, automobiles and people that used to be. Wow wouldn't it be really something to see the neon signage and that Sally's candy shop (with another Sally as the owner of the 2000 something) there again? I guess I'm just dreaming. Thanks for sharing jericl cat.

My gosh, I wrote the above one year ago. Now I write this to thank you again jericl cat, and to say that I have added this to my very latest Yahoo/Flickr gallery 'Yesteryear v.III'
come take a peek if you'd like.

See Eric, look at all the neon on Clifton's. And this isn't even the best photo, some is missing at this point.
